B school Admissions: Announcing Interview Calendar for Top 25 B schools; Plan your schedule
MBA aspirants who have been shortlisted for final admission round by IIMs, XLRI, MDI, IMT, IMI or other top rated B schools should now understand the intricacies of GDPIWAT round.
Rising Importance of PI
Weightage of this round is much higher than their CAT/XAT percentile to convert their call. Personal Interview round is the key to success in securing final admission to the desired institute as all the B schools award maximum weightage to this round.
Not all IIMs and other B schools conduct the same methodology for the final admission. While some prefer GD and PI, other institutes may conduct Essay Writing and Personal Interview.
Written Ability Test has become a preferred choice of IIMs who have already started the process of GDPIWAT which will continue till the end of April 2014.
IIM Ahmedabad has replaced GD by WAT and will award, on a scale of 100, a weightage of 70 to WAT and PI round as against 30 to the CAT composite score.
IIM Bangalore will conduct Written ability test before the Personal Interview session. There will not be any GD round.
WAT & PI round at IIM Calcutta will consist of 15 minutes duration Writing Ability Test followed by personal Interview.
Final admission round at IIM Kozhikode has taken the shape and is going to begin in the middle of February 2014.
Common Admission Process (CAP) for admission to PGDM 2014-16 batch to six new IIMs Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Trichy, Udaipur is being coordinated by IIM Trichy after declaration of shortlist on January 25, 2014.
XLRI has scheduled the GDPI process from February 17 to March 8, 2014 after short listing the candidates based on overall percentile cut off from 88 to 94 for different management programmes.
MDI Gurgaon will conduct Group Discussion and Personal Interview beginning the 3rd week of February 2014.

On a scale of 100 in final admission round Written Ability Test commands a weightage of 10 to 15 which is sufficient to convert or turn down your call.

Irrelevant use of vocabulary- Vocabulary which is not required must not be used. It might unnecessarily stretch your message, may have wrong impression on the reader who incidentally is your examiner.
Avoid Repetition of ideas and sentences- How would you react If someone goes on saying or repeating the same idea in different sentences or in similar ones?
Contradictory statements or ideas- Your statements should not nullify or crisscross your earlier made statements.
Poor hand writing with cutting and cancellations- You may be skilled in writing, you have good vocabulary and know how to use figurative, idiomatic language with quotations BUT if the handwriting is poor, your reader may not follow the message which you wish to convey in its true sense.
Manage the time-There will be a time limit of say 15 to 20 minutes for written ability test.
Personal Interview
PI (personal interview) is the most important part of final admission round. The weightage is even more than the written examination.

What is the most appropriate dress code for interview?
What should you wear in your PI round is a something to be addressed to, with clarity in mind. Your dress code should be in accordance to your personality apart from the climate of the place. It should enhance your smartness and should be comfortable to wear.

You may proceed to select your preferred institutes without any further delay, if you are firm on pursuing the MBA in 2014 before taking decision on other options. Please remember these institutes are also going to close the admission process shortly. Following points are to be kept in mind while choosing the right b school
MBA Admission: Low percentilers stand a chance; Last date for IMT, LIBA, NIRMA, IFMR, MICA
Opportunities and options always exist for those who meticulously pursue them. It is not necessary that a 99+ percentiler may get a call from IIM-A,B,C,L,I, nor it is mandatory that a 92+ percentiler wouldn’t receive a call from top rated B schools. Weightage to written examination is gradually being reduced and may be as low as 50% in comparison to other factors taken together.
Management institutes are shifting the weightage more on other aspects in deciding their admission strategy since they do not require momentary performance level but are more interested in the areas that have become the part of aspirants’ personality over a period of time with consistent grooming.
Other strong points weigh more than percentile
1. Strong Academic record- If you have an excellent academic record, it will add to the prospects of getting a call from a highly ranked institute.
2. Work Experience- If you have a work experience in the range of 1 year to 3 years, maximum weightage will be awarded to you.
3. Gender and academic diversity- If you are a female and are not an engineer bonus points will be granted to you, which will enhance your chances in final admission round.
4. Writing and communication skill- if you can write meaningfully and coherently, are not in the habit of committing grammatical, vocabulary or other petty mistakes, B schools will open their gates for you in final admission round.
You could also test yourself in CMAT 2014 and MAH CET 2014
Other forthcoming MBA entrance tests are CMAT in February 2014 and close on its heels is MAH CET in March 2014. Both these examinations cater to hundreds of good MBA institutes. If you wish to appear and test yourself in these exams, it will also be a good idea and approach to explore a good B school.
The online registration for MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2014 has started from January 27, 2014. Candidates can register up to 5:00 PM on February 14, 2014.
What if I attempt CAT/XAT again?
Not a bad idea, you can do that also. Investing
one more year should be based on judicious thought and well planned preparation, outlined beforehand. You might have not been able to prepare so well in 2013 due to certain exigencies.
